Annual Festival of the International Alternative Theaters (FIAT) in Podgorica is the great theater spectacle which gathers alternative troupes from the region. It will give you the pleasure to enjoy theater classics in a completely different way.
At the very beginning, the original concept of the Herceg Novi April Theater Festivities was dedicated to gathering the amateur theaters from the entire country. However, from 2002 onward, the majority of participants were professional theaters from all over the region. It takes place annually in second half of April and lasts for 15 days.
More than 20 years the Town of Budva has been well known by the cultural manifestation Budva – Theater City, a synonym for theater life of Montenegrin coast during the summer. The Festival starts in July, and ends in the middle August, when the Old Town of Budva and its famous Citadela tower becomes a large theatre, placing itself at the disposal of famous artists, actors, musicians, poets and painters from all over the world.
You may also enjoy picturesque little town of Tivat where Festival of Mediterranean Theater – Purgatorije is held every summer. Numerous art exhibitions, theater plays and movie projections last from late July until middle of August.
International Festival of Theater for Children in Kotor is a several day Festival, during which, most often in the open, in the ambience of the ancient town of Kotor, the plays for children are being displayed. Each year, the Mayor of the town of Kotor gives the great town’s key to its youngest inhabitants enabling them to enjoy and celebrate the joys of youthfulness. The Festival gathers the theaters from entire Balkans and is a manifestation of a unique charm and energy.
